Light, more lights, more lights, camera, action.

We teamed up with the Red Bull Skydiving Team and the Austrian drum&bass legends Camo & Krooked for a truly innovative music video that lit up the sky. We were approached by Red Bull to create a portable lighting system that had all the functionality needed for a full-color, synchronized light show and simultaneously be able to stand the wear-and-tear of skydiving.

The technical and creative challenges were incredible but we managed to pull it all off in the end. After receiving the song to base the programming on, we worked closely with the skydiving team in order to come up with an interesting show that showcased their abilities as athletes and realized the full potential of the lighting system we had created. Building a system that works perfectly from a 4000 meter jump all the way to the floor was no easy feat and we had to consider many factors that we had never had to worry about before, like pressure, altitude and temperature. Everything had to be wireless and work with small batteries so that the enclosure for electronics weighed as little as possible.

After climbing to 4000m, the jumpers synchronized their suits in the plane via remote control, where a countdown was started. All jumpers had earplugs, so they could stay synchronized and maintain awareness of what part of the choreography they were in. Once the signal was given, the 4 athletes jumped out of the plane, followed by the cameraman, who had a 5kg camera attached to his head. The jumpers went through their choreography and then landed on an LED landing strip that we had prepared as well. Because we used several angles in the video, we had to repeat the scene several times: 5 in total. The weather also didn’t always agree with us and we had to cancel a few jumps. But through thick and thin, we pulled through. Post-production and editing was then handled by our friends at Frame Fatale.

The video was premiered at “Red Bull Hosted By: Camo & Krooked” in Linz to an audience of over 7000 people.
