Icarus is the second stage that we’ve built, consisting of 36 polygons, each with an individually controllable LED cluster inside. Constructed at the Tischlerei Frener, a long-standing partner of ours, Icarus has been used at quite a few events and locations including the Urban Art Forms Festival, the Poolbar Festival, the Paradise Festival and the Pratersauna. The stage element is made of hand-cut plexiglass panels supported by a wood and aluminum structure.

Technical Details

The construction plans were created in Cinema4D. The plexiglass was then painstakingly cut by hand with an LED cluster and a ring of LED strip placed inside of each. We used 3 x 48-channel DMX dimmers to control the 36 LED elements, which were connected to an Artnet node that interfaced with our computer. The computer was running a custom Max/MSP patch with David Butler’s imp.dmx plugins to interface with the Artnet node.
